Redesign of old treasures
Opro is passionate about redesign and constant development of collections. As a counter-pole to the throw-away syndrome, we prefer trying to design new pieces based on old models. Occasionally, we design something brand new, but then it is a thoughtful design that does not go out of fashion after just one season. The quality of our craftmanship is of paramount importance to each and every piece of jewellery. Manufacturing in Norway is expensive, but for us there is no alternative. Using enamel calls for a great deal of know-how and experience, which we have gleaned over 40 years in the business. Should we manufacture abroad, we would lose our identity, and above all we would lose control. And since we manufacture in our workshop in Oslo, we can adapt jewellery to the specific desires of the customer. |
Our collections are essentially timeless, so we use colours to link them up to today's fashion trends. The choice of colour can
completely change the appearance of jewellery. A piece of jewellery or a collection might disappear from our range, but the tools are never disposed of. Because of this, we can reintroduce old models when and if fashions change. Enamel and enamel jewellery are closely linked to tradition and craftmanship. We are very proud of this. You have to apply enamel every day for three years before you can call yourself an enameller. The trade requires understanding, experience and an abundance of know-how. The process comprises more than 17 steps, all equally important if the final product is to satisfy all the requirements. We often use #slowfashion as the hashtag on Instagram, because our jewellery cannot be made with speed. In a world where everything is going faster and faster, we like the idea that it doesn’t apply to the loft in Oslo’s Storgata. Here, craftsmanship takes the time that it takes. |
